SQL Server Development Self-Paced PC Certification Explained

By Jason Kendall On July 27, 2010 Under Computers

What might someone searching for training tracks certified by Microsoft expect to find today? Undoubtedly, companies must supply a variety of course choices that cover the portfolio of Microsoft certified training tracks.

You may wish to discuss all the different permutations with a person who is on familiar terms with the requirements in the workplace, and can help you choose the most appropriate area to suit your abilities and character.

Be assured that your course is tailored to your ability level and skills. Select a company that will ensure that the course is appropriate for where you want to get to.

If you’re like many of the students we talk to then you’re a practical sort of person - a ‘hands-on’ personality type. Typically, the world of book-reading and classrooms can be just about bared when essential, but you really wouldn’t enjoy it. Consider interactive, multimedia study if book-based learning really isn’t your style.

Research has always demonstrated that an ‘involved’ approach to study, where we utilise all our senses, is far more likely to produce long-lasting memories.

Courses are now available on CD and DVD discs, where everything is taught on your PC. Through video streaming, you are able to see your instructors showing you how to do something, and then have a go at it yourself - in a virtual lab environment.

You must ensure that you see some example materials from each company you’re contemplating. You’ll want to see that they include video demo’s and interactive elements such as practice lab’s.

It’s folly to opt for on-line only training. With highly variable reliability and quality from all internet service providers, it makes sense to have physical media such as CD or DVD ROM’s.

Proper support is incredibly important - look for a package offering 24×7 direct access to instructors, as anything else will annoy you and definitely hamper your progress.

Try and find training with help available at any time you choose (even 1am on Sunday morning!) You want direct-access to qualified mentors and tutors, and not simply some messaging service that means you’re waiting for tutors to call you back when it’s convenient for them.

As long as you look hard, you will find professional training packages who offer direct-access support around the clock - even in the middle of the night.

Never make the mistake of compromise where support is concerned. Many IT hopefuls that drop-out or fail, are in that situation because of a lack of support.

Most of us would love to think that our jobs will always be safe and our work futures are protected, but the growing likelihood for the majority of jobs in the UK right now appears to be that security just isn’t there anymore.

In times of rising skills shortages together with growing demand however, we often hit upon a new kind of market-security; driven by the conditions of constant growth, employers find it hard to locate the number of people required.

Reviewing the computer sector, the recent e-Skills analysis showed a twenty six percent deficit in trained staff. This shows that for each four job positions that are available throughout computing, there are barely three qualified workers to fill that need.

This one concept on its own is the backbone of why the UK urgently requires many more people to join the IT industry.

While the market is evolving at such a quick pace, there really isn’t any other market worth investigating for a new future.

Sometimes trainees are under the impression that the traditional school, college or university path is still the best way into IT. So why then are commercially accredited qualifications becoming more in demand?

Corporate based study (in industry terminology) is far more specialised and product-specific. Industry is aware that this level of specialised understanding is what’s needed to cope with an acceleratingly technical workplace. Adobe, Microsoft, CISCO and CompTIA are the big boys in this field.

Patently, a necessary quantity of closely linked information needs to be covered, but core specialisation in the required areas gives a vendor educated person a huge edge.

The crux of the matter is this: Commercial IT certifications tell an employer precisely what skills you have - it says what you do in the title: for example, I am a ‘Microsoft Certified Professional’ in ‘Designing Security for a Windows 2003 Network’. Therefore employers can identify exactly what they need and what certifications will be suitable to deal with those needs.
